NEW Road-to-Rail transportation equipment, RAILMATE ™, manufactured by American Surface Lines, LLC, Minneapolis, MN, has just completed a successful trial of its new equipment on Twin Cities & Western Railroad.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN ---American Surface Lines, LLC, manufacturers of RailMate™, SmartFreight Solutions, tested the NEW transportation bi-modal equipment designed to haul heavy aggregates. Sand, from the Yellow Medicine Quarry, owned by Martin Marietta Materials, near Granite Falls, MN, was loaded into RailMate™ end-dump MAC trailers and driven by standard over-the-road tractors, supplied by Lawrence Transportation, Red Wing, MN, to the Sacred Heart spur, owned by Twin Cities and Western Railroad, Glencoe, MN.

Utilizing fuel efficient rail service, RailMate™ trailers supported by RailMate™ innovative single axle bogies, were transported by Twin Cities and Western Railroad to the Bass Lake Sub, Hopkins, MN, owned by Canadian Pacific Railroad.

Standard over-the-road tractors removed loaded RailMate™ trailers from the rail service and drove to Commercial Asphalt Co., a division of Tiller Corporation, located in Maple Grove, MN.

This two week test required by the FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) demonstrated RailMate’s unique capabilities of using rail and road infrastructures to transport commodity products like aggregate, paper, waste and grain to save significant costs in labor and fuel.
